Feeling that it’s time for a change in her life, Dr. Kate Forster (SANDRA BULLOCK) leaves the suburban Illinois locale where she completed her residency and takes a job at a busy Chicago hospital. One thing she is reluctant to leave behind is the uniquely beautiful house she’s been renting – a spacious and artfully designed refuge with large windows that overlook a placid lake. It’s a place in which she felt her true self. It is a winter morning in 2006.

On her way to the city, Kate leaves a note in the mailbox for house’s next tenant, asking him to forward her mail and noting that the inexplicable painted paw prints he might notice by the front door were there when she moved in. But when the next tenant arrives, he sees a much different picture. Alex Wyler (KEANU REEVES), a talented but frustrated architect working at a nearby construction site, finds the lake house badly neglected: dusty, dirty and overgrown with weeds. And no sign of paw prints anywhere. The house has special meaning for Alex. In a happier time it was built by his estranged father (CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER), a renowned architect who allowed his professional acclaim to grow at the expense of his family life.

Alex feels a sense of peace here now and commits to restoring the property to its original beauty. He disregards Kate’s note until, days later, while painting the weather-beaten jetty he sees a stray dog run across the fresh paint and then towards the entrance of the house, leaving paw prints exactly where she said they’d be.Baffled, Alex writes back, saying that the house had no occupant before him and wondering how she could have known about the dog; while Kate, who just left it a week ago, imagines he is playing some kind of joke on her and fires back a reply.

[ before this , a colleague told me the rough idea on how the story was all about ... instantly i fell in love with the storyline and desperately wanted to catch it ... ] so there we were , in the cinema anxiously waiting for the show to start ... *smilez*

as the show began , both of us was drooling over KEANU ... though he had put on weight , but still he looked so handsome ... *giggles* ... continued watching the movie , attentively following every bit of the scenes , till we both arrived at this scene ~ where Alex told Kate to talk a walk with him .. and he left a map in the mailbox with the places numbered for Kate's reference ... *awww* ... so they took the walk together , but jus in 2 different time frames ... till Kate finally arrive at this place , and she saw something which shocked her ... there were scribbles on the wall of the house , in black spray paint where Alex wrote " Kate , i wish we had really took this walk together " *awww , wide smile* both of us couldnt stop saying " sweet rite ! gosh ! "

the farny scenes were also great , at the point , where both Alex and Kate realise they r actually interacting to each other for real ... and both of them happen to be at the Lake House infront of the mail box , and there they were exchanging notes ... *laugh out loud* scenes again , where both of them were talking to each other at the park and the hospital cafe , and also the part where they finally decided to meet up for the first time , [ Kate was in the bathroom whereas Alex was at the Lake House ] all separated by time ... that was farny ... *giggles*

there's more to all sweet things in which Alex did for Kate .. like planting the tree in front of Kate's new apartment in yr 2006 ... [ " don forget , Alex is in yr 2004 , so see the willingness and huge effort put in " ] Alex went to the extent , upon knowing Kate missed the trees at the Lake House ...

*big smile* .. both of us were really enjoying ourselves ... so lets get to the climax of the movie ... on Valentine's Day morning , Kate was at this park with her mum ... and an accident occured , involving a man ... but she couldnt save him , he died ... the man was Alex ... but Kate didnt know the fact ... [ to excite this more , Alex knew how Kate looked like , when he went to receive a book for Kate at the train station ... Alex knowing Kate's bf at that point of time , going to a party organised to celebrate Kate's bday ... best part they kissed ... but sad though , Kate didnt remember anything about Alex ]

came to this scene where Kate was sad and dissapointed when Alex didnt show up on their first date ... she didnt know , Alex had died at that point of time ... so she sent a note to Alex to stop everything , they would never have the chance to meet up , its impossible ... but Alex told her to have faith and don give up on him ... but guess due to the huge dissapointment , she really stopped sending notes and even going back to the Lake House ... so life moves on for Kate ... *teary eyes*

*almost ending* in yr 2008 ( February 14th Valentine's Day ) , Kate were at this house , she bought with her bf ... she had engage the professional architect to renovate the house ... so as Kate was about to leave , she saw this frame which had the sketch of the Lake House ... Kate then asked the guy (Alex's little bro) , who drew that ? ... he then said its by his bro Alex Wyler ... Kate shockingly asked how can she meet up with Alex ... unfortunately , he said his bro (Alex) had died on the same day ... instantly triggered Kate why Alex didnt turn up on their first date , and who she had saved during the accident ... Kate rushed off to the Lake House and left a note for Alex , hoping she would change their destiny .. she explain the situation and told him not to look for her on that day , and jus stay where he were ... finally expressing her feelings for him and she had loved him dearly ... she also told Alex to jus wait finally asked him to , on the same date February 14th Valentine's Day , yr 2008 looked her up at the Lake House , she's there ... *flashback , Alex was holding the note , standing by the side road , where he actually saw Kate sitting with her mum at the park ... ~ actually in the beginning Alex crossed to meet Kate , where he was hit by a bus and died ... ~ but upon receiving Kate's note at that time , he hault there * now back to where Kate was , kneeling down in front of the mail box ... she cried as nothing happened showing the signs that Alex received her note ... *teary eyes again* unexpectedly when she was crying over the fact she lost Alex , there a car stopped beside hers ... there Alex came out and walked towards her ... *awww* Kate finally said " You waited ! " ... instantly they hugged and fell into a long passionate kiss ... *teary eyes yet again* ...

thats the end of the most incredible romantic story we both enjoyed ... best bud and me cant stop talking about it even til today ... still not over with the mood ... so i hope u have enjoyed reading all of the above as much as i have enjoyed watching the movie .. for those who have not wacthed , i recommend highly to go and catch this ... u wont be going home with regrets ... *idah this is for u , enjoy reading ...* to be continued ... .:][:.
